In carpal tunnel syndrome the numbness is mainly in the thumb, index and middle fingers, worsens at night and often eases when you shake the hand. Numbness from a cervical disc runs down from the neck along the arm and changes with neck position. The two can occur together, so orthopedics and the Spine Center assess it jointly.

Can trigger finger be cured with an injection?

Early on, an injection and rest often resolve it. But if the finger keeps catching, or stays stuck and will not straighten, we consider surgery to widen the sheath the tendon runs through.

Will elbow pain go away with rest?

Rest reduces it, but it often comes back once you resume the same movement. We assess how damaged the tendon is and treat with extracorporeal shockwave therapy, injections and stretching; if it persists for a long time, surgery is considered.

손목터널증후군은 손목 앞쪽 좁은 통로에서 정중신경이 눌려 손이 저리는 질환입니다.

엄지·검지·중지가 주로 저리고 밤에 심해 손을 털게 됩니다. 오래 두면 엄지 아래 근육이 마르고 힘이 빠져, 저림이 반복되면 신경 검사로 눌린 정도를 확인합니다.

How it is diagnosed

History and physical examination — The specialist takes your symptoms, medical history and daily habits, then examines you to reach a diagnosis.

X-ray — X-rays pass through the body and the differences in shadow they leave are used for diagnosis.

Ultrasound — Ultrasound uses no radiation and is quick and painless, which makes it easy on patients.

MRI — High-resolution imaging of what X-ray cannot show: soft tissue, muscle, ligament and cartilage, along with nerves and vessels.

Manual and exercise therapy
A physiotherapist uses release techniques and joint mobilisation, guided by anatomy, to reduce pain and restore function.
Injection therapy (prolotherapy)
A harmless concentrated dextrose solution is injected into weakened ligaments or tendons to strengthen damaged tissue.
